Climate Resiliency Plan
The City is pleased to announce the development of a Climate Resiliency Plan (CRP) - a forward-looking initiative designed to address both the causes and impacts of climate change in our community. The CRP will serve as a comprehensive, public-facing document outlining both corporate and community-wide actions. It will act as a roadmap to help us reduce climate-related risks and build a more sustainable, resilient future. Additionally, the CRP will ensure the City meets the requirements of British Columbia’s Emergency Management legislation.
What is climate resiliency?
It’s our community’s ability to survive, adapt, and thrive in the face of ongoing challenges like extreme weather, wildfires, and drought. We can build resiliency through:
- Adaptation: Reducing our exposure and vulnerability to climate risks, and strengthening our ability to recover from them
- Mitigation: Cutting Green House Gasses (GHG) emissions to help slow the pace of climate change
Update: November 2025
We’ve completed a Hazard, Risk, and Vulnerability Analysis (HRVA), which identifies the climate impacts Salmon Arm may face and the level of risk these pose to the community. Based on this, we’ll create an adaptation plan to address the most significant risks - those rated as high or very high. We’ve also analyzed GHG emissions in our community to understand where they come from. This will inform a mitigation plan to help meet the emissions targets in our recently updated Official Community Plan. These two plans - adaptation and mitigation—will come together to form the full Climate Resiliency Plan.
