On behalf of myself, Council and the City of Salmon Arm I would like to thank the Adams Lake Indian Band for inviting me to speak before you this morning. The Secwepemc (Se-KWEP-umk-wh) flag represents the bands of the Secwepemc Nation which includes four bands within close proximity to the City; Adams Lake, Little Shuswap Lake, Neskonlith and Splatsin. The raising of the Secwepemc flag is a symbolic act and recognizes the importance of Aboriginal history in our area. This is a step in continuing to build a relationship between the City, First  Nations, and residents of Salmon Arm. Let’s gather together today to celebrate and enjoy the festivities in honor of Aboriginal Day and the commemorative raising of the Secwepemc flag. Thank you.
