Hockeyville – We can do this!

Posted on February 20, 2014 at 2:50 PM by Nancy Cooper

In early January, Salmon Arm was nominated for the Kraft Hockeyville competition. Since that time, the community has worked hard to submit their stories and photos and participate in a number of Hockeyville events. We’ve done a great job of telling the world why Salmon Arm is Hockeyville!  The submission phase of the competition has now closed and we are waiting for the big announcement on March 8 during Hockeynight in Canada. This is when they will announce the top 16 communities.

Salmon Arm (stick and puck).png These top 16 communities are determined by a panel of judges from Kraft, CBC and NHL, who are currently reviewing all of the submissions received on the Hockeyville website. If selected as a top 16 community, Salmon Arm will proceed immediately to the voting phase. Voting will open on March 8 immediately following the top 16 announcement and will remain open for the next 2 days. You can vote as many times as you want during this 2 day period – and we will need all the help we can get!!

If you are away like I will be you can still vote. It’s all done on the Kraft Hockeyville website. From there, it will be narrowed down to the top 4 communities based on number of votes, and a further round will take it down to top 2 and finally the first place announcement. We can do this! Imagine $100,000 for Shaw Centre upgrades, being featured on CBC and a pre-season NHL hockey game in Salmon Arm!

Prize packages include:
Top 16 communities - $25,000 for arena upgrades
Top 4 communities - $50,000 for arena upgrades
Top 2 communities - $100,000 for arena upgrades

First Place - $100,000 for arena upgrades, Pre-season NHL game held in hometown, CBC feature episode on your community.

Stay tuned for upcoming information on voting stations and other Hockeyville events coming up!

Important upcoming dates:
March 8 – Top 16 communities announced on Hockeynight in Canada
March 8 – Voting opens on the krafthockeyville.cbc.ca website
March 10 – Voting closes to determine top 4
