April 29, 2020 Update

The City of Salmon Arm is providing a COVID-19 Emergency Grant Fund for Charities and Non-Profits Organizations. The application form (pdf) is now available.

The City of Salmon Arm’s Covid Emergency Grant Fund is a stop gap measure to keep vulnerable people safe while charities, non-profits and social agencies await the roll out of provincial and federal announced funding.

As such, the intent is to focus on basic supplies, prevention and repairs so as not to exacerbate a situation which could lead to further spread.

Items considered, if needed, to address an emergency would include such things as:

  • Food/Water
  • Basic toiletries
  • Diapers, formula and baby food
  • Fire extinguishers
  • First aid kits
  • Urgent repairs of facilities (sanitation), vehicles (delivery of supplies)
  • Additional security measures
  • PPE for volunteers (if not made available from Health Authority)
  • Cleaning supplies for front line facilities
  • Training for front line staff/volunteers
  • Storage/refrigeration
  • Safe disposal of recycling and garbage on front line sites

The fund can help insure that an immediate emergency can be addressed quickly thereby helping to prevent the spread of Covid.

If your organization qualifies for federal or provincial funding and it is not an immediate emergency, it is unlikely this fund is the most appropriate for your request.

Garbage, Recycling & Food Waste Collection
To minimize risk to our waste collectors and processors, personal care products accepted in either the curbside garbage or food waste collection must now be contained within a sealed bag. Specifically, items such as tissues and napkins must be placed in compostable bags, tied shut and placed in the curbside green bin for collection, or otherwise put in your garbage bag. For information as to what-goes-where, refer to our Curbside Collection web page or download the Recycle Coach mobile phone app. Call the City if further information is required. Thank you for your cooperation.
