Something new added to the website–the members of the Community Heritage Commission are thrilled!
The Heritage Commission team consists of six members of the public, and one City Councillor. But we had a problem: no one knew what we were up to! The solution? Add a “Heritage page” and showcase us on the web! Commission members have been working hard, perhaps in secret, since 2009 but now the cat is out of the bag!
When the Commission formed, it was out of concern for our changing landscape. We thought carefully about the built heritage and vistas that we wanted to preserve, with the knowledge that we were guests on the unceded ancestral lands of the Secwépemc Nation. We consulted our community and came up with a plan. That plan, the Heritage Strategy for Salmon Arm, is coming to fruition.
