Welcome to the Mayor’s blog
December 3, 2012
So my excuse for not posting last week is that I was away. I have been elected to the Board of the Municipal Insurance Association (MIA). MIA was established when municipalities needed insurance services but could not obtain it from commercial insurance companies at an affordable rate due to a number of issues at that time. I was very impressed with the progress in the nearly 25 years it has existed and the help it provides for municipalities.

Gas Prices
Gas prices in Salmon Arm seem to have come down somewhat lately. I am certain public pressure through the media made the difference.

Winter
Ok, while I keep saying I am not in favour of snow because it is costly and quickly uses up our snow plowing and sanding budget I have been told by a number of my friends it is time for some of the white stuff. I have to agree, what is Christmas without it?  And yes, I too, want to ski this winter. Therefore, I have decided to bow to community pressure and will start hoping for snow but only on the condition that everyone makes sure they have good winter tires and promises to drive with extreme caution in snow and possible icy winter conditions.

To our Public works staff I want apologize for giving in to public pressure but they had a letter from Santa Claus which include the statements like; he didn’t have wheels for his sleigh and reindeer only fly on snow clouds so what else could I do. Honestly, I really had no other option.
Let it snow. Let it snow. Let it snow.

Hockey
The Silverbacks beat the Penticton V’s in double overtime Saturday December 1, 2012. It was an exciting back and forth game during regulation time and we were all sitting on the edge of our seats holding our breath during the overtime periods. As you can imagine when the Silverbacks scored the winning goal the entire arena jumped to their feet cheering, clapping and high-¬fiving. It was a great game!  Well...maybe not for the Penticton fans.
