Guidelines
General Guidelines
  • Garbage and/or recycling bags must be placed at the curb before 7:00 a.m. on your collection day.
  • Maximum (standard) bag size is 75 litres or 33" (82.6 cm) by 26" (66 cm). Bags must not exceed 10 kilograms or 22 pounds each.
  • All garbage / recycling must be placed in bags, even if it is stored in a standard bin.
  • Bins must be must be noncorrosive, durable, water-tight and fitted with handles and a lid. Recycling bins must be blue in colour and clearly indicate that they are for recycling. Garbage bins may be any colour except blue.
  • Bags or containers must be placed in the front yard or on the driveway or access to your home, adjacent to the street and as near as possible to the road, but not on the sidewalk. (See the diagrams below.)

Garbage StickerGarbage Collection Guidelines
  • One standard bag per residential dwelling, per week, is permitted.
  • Any extra garbage bags must have an Extra Bag Tag sticker attached to the bag. Tags may be purchased at City Hall and the SASCU Recreation Centre for $2 each.
  • For worker safety, all garbage must be placed in a bag, even if it is stored it in a standard bin. This includes (but is not limited to) sawdust, cat litter and any other loose items or sweepings.
  • Only eligible materials will be accepted for collection as per Bylaw No. 3845. View the list of items not eligible for disposal.

Recycling Collection Guidelines

  • An unlimited number of recycling collection bags are accepted every two weeks, provided each bag does not exceed size / weight guidelines.
  • Recyclables must be clean, dry and sanitary.
  • Recyclables must be placed in a clear or clear blue bag in the appropriate location (mandatory). These bags may then be placed in a standard blue recycling bin (optional).
  • Remove plastic wrap from cardboard flats. Flatten large cardboard and tie in bundles no larger than 8” thick (20 cm) X 30” wide (78 cm) X 30” tall (78 cm). Staples and tape are accepted. Place bundled cardboard next to recycling bags.
