City Safety Program
Staying Safe on the Job
The City’s Safety Program, coordinated through the Fire Department, maintains an Occupational Injury and Illness Prevention Program in compliance with the Workers’ Compensation Act and associated regulations.

The City’s Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee is comprised of five employee representatives and two employer representatives who meet monthly to discuss safety issues relative to the workplace, review employee training requirements, incident / accident investigations, crew safety talks and safety policies and procedures.

The program endeavors to stay abreast of evolving WorkSafe Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and the ongoing development of safety procedures. Training courses and programs are provided to staff in a variety of areas including the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), first aid, hearing monitoring, working in close proximity to power lines, crew safety discussions, new employee orientations, etc.

The City of Salmon Arm is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for its employees with the goal to prevent accidents, injury and illness in the workplace.
